LAUNCH System Challenge 2013

Great example of international collaboration fueling innovation in textiles towards positive social and environmental impact.

LAUNCH is a collaborative project by NASA, USAID, U.S. State Department and NIKE founded on the idea of harnessing “collective genius” to create “a better world”, by leveraging the networks, strategies and resources of global stakeholders to scale innovation for impact. They have successfully launched 4 Challenges —Water, Health, Energy and Beyond Waste— and accelerated a portfolio of 40 innovations.

The latest System Challenge 2013 recently called on innovators across industries to submit game-changing projects that “will transform the system of fabrics to one that advances equitable global economic growth, drives human prosperity and replenishes the planet’s resources”. These could include business models, financial instruments, technologies and programs that accelerate research, education and capacity building.

You can check out the 10 finalists here and mark 26-28 september on your calendar to either attend the forum at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California or keep an ear out for the winner (this post too shall then have its due update!).
